Job Summary
Responsible for direct health care delivery to residents as specified on individual service plans and physicians’ orders according to Community Village policies.
Accountable To: Resident Care Manager and Resident Care Shift Supervisor or designee
Job Standards
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old
- Must have at least one (1) year of experience with the elderly population
- Must maintain neat, well-groomed appearance and wear conventional type nursing scrubs
- Ability to verbally communicate with residents, families, the public, and other members of staff
- Ability to read/write English and document observations
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
- Must understand psychosocial problems of aging
- Must have a current CPR/AED certification and training in First Aid
- Must have a clear understanding of confidentiality and practice HIPAA principles
- Must be honest, dependable, and exhibit a warm, cheerful, caring manner
- Must treat residents, their family members, and fellow staff with common courtesy and respect
- Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Essential Duties
- Implements residents’ service plans
- Administers and records medications (including insulin, eye drops, creams, nasal spray, enemas, suppositories) per physician order
- Accurately reports any changes of resident’s health, activities, or behaviors in a timely manner
- Checks weights and collects urine/stool samples per physician order
- Assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): showering, toileting, dressing, transferring and ambulation, grooming, and hygiene
- Must be able to handle emergency situations, including calling 911 when needed and following their instructions while awaiting Emergency Medical Technicians arrival
- Assists in passing trays at meal time and observes residents in the dining room for choking hazards or for assistance with feeding
- Makes hourly rounds throughout the shift, provides aid to residents as needed
- Answers the call lights and telephone promptly and courteously
- Makes sure the Resident Care Center is neat and in order at the end of the shift
- Plans to work a rotating shift that often includes weekends and holidays and possibly a mandated shift (see Shift Mandate Policy)
- Plans to arrive early to receive report and complete narcotic count. Be at the workstation ready to work at the scheduled time
Non-Essential Duties
- Assists with passing food trays during meal time
- Assists with answering Community Village phones as needed
- Assists residents with non-medical personal tasks (for example, redirection, providing aid with use of cell phones, laptops, tablets, and TV remote)
