Q: How is Community Village Assisted Living different from a nursing facility?
A: Community Village is licensed as a Michigan Home for the Aged. This designation limits the level of medical care from that of a nursing home. Assisted Living is designed to serve aging adults that are ambulatory with perhaps the assistance of a walker or mobility device. “Assisted living” is a term used by many aging adult programs – including Community Village – yet does not designate a specific level of care and is not a license designation in Michigan.
Q: Does Community Village offer evaluations of aging adults to determine appropriateness for residency?
A: Yes! And there’s no charge for evaluation visits in Saginaw County. We recommend that the applicant visits Community Village to evaluate our facility and program before applying for residency. Interested applicants can enroll in Community Village Respite Care to “give us a try”.
Q: What happens when a resident of Community Village begins to require a higher level of care?
A: We are committed to “aging in place” because we understand that relocating can be stressful on an aging adult. With this in mind, we make every reasonable accommodation for residents to remain at Community Village as long as it is safe for them. Contracted home healthcare agencies are available to assist residents with specialized services for as long as they retain residency with us. As it becomes necessary, our licensed social worker can assist family members in their search for additional care needs.
Q: Does Medicaid cover the cost of care at Community Village?
A: Medicaid does not cover assisted living. Therefore, Community Village requires private pay for the cost of residency. That said, many Community Village residents qualify for services that are covered by Medicaid (e.g., pharmaceuticals, medical appliances, and medical procedures). Q: How do I know which long term care facility is right for me?
A: These two questions matter most and only you and your loved one can answer them best: Will my loved one receive the level of care they need at this facility? And, will their finances deplete too quickly forcing a relocation to a more affordable facility? Begin a conversation with our Administrator or Social Service Coordinator. Our desire is to assist you in finding the most appropriate service for your specific needs, whether or not it’s Community Village.
Q: How do I apply for Medicaid, Veterans benefits, or advance directives for my care?
A: Our Community Village social worker assists family members with completing paperwork and applications associated with long term care. We are also able to help you connect with agencies providing the Medicaid waiver for an assessment of eligibility.
Q: Am I allowed to keep my personal physician once I become a resident of Community Village?
A: Yes, Community Village maintains a relationship with a physician who visits weekly, but residents have the choice of their medical professionals.
